2021 Journalist of the Year
Jill Glavan
After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Missouri with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Art History, Jill began her career far from home in the mountains of Burlington, VT. Three years later, she moved closer to family in Indianapolis to work at the station where she had once interned, FOX59 News. Over nearly nine years in Indy, she helped launch multiple hours of news at FOX59, as well as played a part in the launch of CBS4 when it became a duopoly. In 2017, she took on the task of launching CBS4 Problem Solvers, reporting and producing weekly content, as well as in-depth consumer and investigative reports. Jill found a particular passion in research and advocate work, as well as data-driven reporting. In July 2021, she left her position to take care of her twin boys, who have changed her life in immeasurable ways since their arrival mid-pandemic. In her spare time, Jill enjoys attending live concerts, reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with family.

Jill's Nomination
Submitted by Fred Schultz
Jill Glavan is a reporter with Fox59 and CBS 4 in Indianapolis. During ITLA's legislative fight to limit the COVID-19 immunity bills, known as SB1 and HB 1002, Jill took a special interest and investigated the impact of the proposed immunity on our fellow Hoosiers.
Jill continued to follow the impact of broad COVID-19 immunity. She had a special segment that spotlighted a family whose loved one was a victim of medical malpractice, but struggled to find an attorney because of the immunity provisions in SB 1 and HB 1002. Jill interviewed one of the key lawmakers responsible for the COVID-19 immunity bills, who admitted that malpractice claims unrelated to COVID-19 should not be barred simply because the patient happened to also have COVID-19.
Jill's reporting on the consequences of the COVID-19 immunity bills helped shed light on the negative impact these laws have on the public.
